The Nippon Life Professor in Finance; Professor of Finance, The Wharton School
Professor van Binsbergen specializes in theoretical and empirical research in finance, with a focus on asset pricing. His current research is mostly in asset pricing and focuses on the relationship between financial markets and the macro economy and the organization, skill, and performance of financial intermediaries. Recent papers shed light on the real implications of stock market mispricing, the effectiveness of monetary policy, and measuring the skill of investment managers.
Professor van Binsbergen's research has appeared in leading academic journals, such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Monetary Economics. Before joining the Wharton School in 2014, he taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University. Professor van Binsbergen is a research associate at the NBER and the CEPR, a former editor and current Advisory Editor of the Review of Finance, and an Associate Editor at the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics. His work has won numerous research and teaching awards. He received his PhD from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

MICHAEL ROBERTS, PHD
William H. Lawrence Professor; Professor of Finance, The Wharton School
Professor Roberts' primary research is in the area of corporate finance, specifically in capital structure, investment policy, financial contracting, and payout policy. His recent work has examined the design of debt securities and the role of control rights in influencing financial and investment policy. Professor Roberts' research has received several awards, including the Brattle Prize for Distinguished Paper published in the Journal of Finance, where he is Co-editor, and Best Paper awards at the Financial Management Association and Southwestern Finance Association annual conferences.
He serves on the editorial boards at the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Review of Corporate Finance Studies, the Financial Research Letters, and the International Review of Finance. In addition to his experience at the Wharton School, where he has been since 2004, Professor Roberts has taught at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. He earned his BA in Economics from the University of California at San Diego along with his MA in Statistics and PhD in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley.
